Synthaesia

“Synthæsia” platforms queer event photographers who wield their practices to immortalize the vibrant essence and energy of Toronto’s Queer nightlife. This exhibition delves into the profound role these spaces play as sanctuaries for the queer community, unleashing a cascade of sensory experiences that heighten sight, touch, taste, smell, and hearing.

The title itself, a playful nod to ‘synesthesia,’ encapsulates the serendipitous sensory ecology that sound and these spaces foster. Within the immersive embrace of queer nightlife realms, the fervor and thrill often intertwine, leading to a delightful fusion of our myriad of senses. Queer nightlife is a haven where judgment is left behind and our community can authentically embrace their inner selves.

In the pulsating atmosphere where synths echo and rhythms follow, an intoxicating journey of intimacy, euphoria, and unbridled liberty is archived by the lens from our photographers. Across seven distinct practices, this showcase skillfully captures the diverse spectrum of queer experiences within Toronto’s nightlife spaces.

This exhibition is being presented by IC Contemporary and READ THE ROOM, and is sponsored by Vitaly. We extend deep gratitude to Its OK Studios, Absolut, and Imaged Advertising Creations Inc. for their support on this exhibition.
